Belcarra
We
can collect you at the airport (see Tariff for transfer
costs) and take you to our base at Carra Caravan and Camping
Park in picturesque Belcarra village, 8km south of Castlebar
which is Mayo's largest town.
The village has, for many years, been adjudged the tidiest village in County Mayo. At Belcarra you will be introduced to your horse and caravan and be consulted about the route you follow during your Mayo holiday.
You will be briefed on the history, geography and landscape of Mayo and advised of local events and entertainments.
You will spend the first night in Belcarra, do some shopping, have a meal out perhaps, or a leisurely drink in a local pub.
Instruction
The morning after your arrival you will receive instruction in harnessing, driving and caring for your horse. Our instructor will accompany you, in our own grounds, and later on the open road, before letting you off on your own to explore the quiet roads of Mayo. Your horse is specially selected for his docile temperament and good road sense.
You just gently guide him to your next stop. And we'll always be within easy reach if you need us!
You will travel about 10kms (3 hours) each day and stop over-night at selected farm sites where you will be welcomed and made feel at home.
We will meet up with you as you near your first stop and help you to unharness. We'll call next morning again to help you to get started and each morning until you are comfortable on your own.
